Wedding Invitation Timeline
Order your Save the Dates 6-8 weeks before you plan on sending them (6+ months before the wedding).
Send out Save the Dates at least 6 months before your wedding date. For destination weddings give guests extra notice by sending out Save the Dates up to a year in advance.
Order your wedding invitations 5 months ahead of your wedding date to make sure you have plenty of time to design, assemble, address, and send them. Choose an RSVP by date of 2-3 weeks before the wedding date.
When ordering invitations consider the number of households that will receive an invitation, rather than the number of guests, seeing as many of your guests probably share an address. This usually comes out to about 60% of your total guest list.
Also be sure to order extras for addressing or assembly mishaps, last-minute invites, and to keep a suite for yourself. 10-15% extra will do.
- Send out your invitations 6-8 weeks before your wedding date.
- Order any ceremony and reception stationery such as programs, menus, and table numbers 6-8 weeks before your wedding date.
- This is also a good time to order thank you notes so you can start sending thanks for any gifts that come before your wedding.
